Frequently asked questions
Why should I go to the dentist regularly?
Many of us does not visit a dentist regularly, but only going when we have oral health related problems. This is mainly due to the assumption of saving money. This practice however, would result in a more expensive treatment cost later on and more time spent to solve the problem. Most dental problems, does not shows signs and symptoms until it is too late. A more complex disease is more costly and need a longer time to treat.
How much time should I allocate for a dental treatment/appointment?
It all depends on the condition of the patient and how serious is the disease. On average, it is best to allocate at least 30 minutes for a visit to Dental Clinic.
Why should I floss? Is it not enough to brush?
Flossing is done to reduce the number of bacteria in a person’s mouth. Bacteria is contained in food debris that can be eliminated through flossing. Brushing functions to remove most food debris but not all. Floss is able to go to areas in between teeth to clean out those areas. If flossing is not practiced, the food debris will harden, forming calculus. Calculus cannot be removed simply by brushing, but instead requires professional treatment.
How should I prevent tooth decay?
Tooth decay happens as a result of poor oral health care and unhealthy diet. 5 steps to prevent tooth decay :
1.Brushing 2 times a day(after breakfast and before sleep)
2.Use fluoridated toothpaste
3.Rinse after a meal
4.Floss after eating
5.Have a regular dental check-up
Why should a dentist take x-ray?
Many dental diseases cannot be simply detected using the naked eye. X-ray enables a dentist to detect:
1.Unseen tooth decay area, e.g. inner part, in between teeth
2.Gum problem
3.Area of pus
4.Tumour / cyst / abnormal growth
5.Tooth root infection
Early detection and treatment of an oral health disease could save time, money and reduce discomfort. X-ray is able to detect unseen damages to oral structures. The dentist will determine the need to take an X-ray.
